Water quality requirements in the photovoltaic industry

In the production process, especially in the processes of silicon wafer cleaning, velvet making, etching, etc.,

a large amount of high-purity water is required. Tiny particles and ion impurities in water can affect the

conversion efficiency and yield of battery cells. Therefore, an efficient and reliable water treatment system

is an important component of the production line.

Core filtering equipment

01 Security filter

Security filters are usually installed before reverse osmosis systems as the final pre-treatment step. Its

main function is to intercept small particles that may remain in the pre-treatment system and prevent

them from entering subsequent precision equipment. In the photovoltaic industry, security filters help

protect reverse osmosis membranes and maintain stable operation of ultrapure water systems.

02 High-flow filter element

High flow filter cartridges have the characteristics of high single flow rate, long service life, and low

pressure difference, and are widely used in water treatment systems. Compared with traditional

filters, high flow filters require fewer quantities and have lower replacement frequencies at the same

flow rate, which helps reduce maintenance costs and downtime. This type of filter is suitable for

handling high flow incoming water and providing stable water quality for the production line.

03 Shallow sand filter

The shallow sand filter adopts a parallel design of multiple filtering units, using fine quartz sand as the

filtering medium, which can remove suspended solids, colloids and other impurities in water. In water

treatment systems, it is often used as the core equipment in the pretreatment stage, providing support

for subsequent precision filtration. Its backwash function can support continuous operation, which helps

stabilize the system.

04 Multi-media filter

Multi media filters typically use multiple layers of filter media such as quartz sand and anthracite, utilizing

media of different particle sizes and densities to form a filter layer from coarse to fine from top to bottom.

This structure can achieve a deeper level of filtration, intercepting suspended particles of different sizes.

Commonly used to remove turbidity, chromaticity, and organic matter from raw water, laying the foundation

for subsequent processes.

Specific application of photovoltaic production line

Silicon material cleaning process

Multi media filters and shallow sand filters are used for preliminary purification of raw water, removing most

suspended solids and impurities.

Velvet cleaning process

The security filter and high flow filter element ensure the high purity of cleaning water, avoiding contamination

of the silicon wafer surface.

Cooling circulating water system

The filtering equipment keeps the cooling water clean to prevent scaling and blockage of pipelines and

equipment.

Wastewater reuse treatment

Various types of filters are used in combination to achieve effective treatment and reuse of production

wastewater.

The value of system collaborative operation

In actual production lines, these filtration devices usually work together to form a complete water

treatment process:

the raw water is first pretreated through shallow sand filters and multi-media filters, then further

filtered through security filters, and finally combined with high flow filter elements and other

equipment to provide stable water quality support for the production line.

This multi-level filtration scheme can meet the strict requirements of water quality in production,

while also helping to extend the service life of equipment, control operating costs, and support

overall production efficiency. In the process of moving towards efficient and low-cost development

in the photovoltaic industry, every link is crucial. The water treatment filtration system, as a

supporting link in the production line, maintains the quality stability of each process.

With the continuous advancement of industry technology, filtration technology will also continue

to develop, providing reliable support for the clean energy industry.
