Overview of the Paper Industry
Paper making enterprises are typical high water consuming industries, and every step from pulp making,
rinsing, dilution to papermaking cannot be separated from the participation of water. In traditional
craftsmanship, the water consumption for producing one ton of pulp can reach 100-200 cubic meters,
or even higher. Nowadays, with the advancement of technology and the increasing awareness of
environmental protection, many enterprises have controlled the water consumption per ton of paper
between 10-50 cubic meters through modern means such as closed loop systems and recycled water.
Some small and medium-sized enterprises still have room for improvement in water efficiency.
Promoting water conservation and emission reduction, improving water purification and reuse
capabilities, has become a necessary path for the paper industry to achieve green and low-carbon
development.
Key filtration processes and difficulties in paper mills
In the papermaking production process, the filtration system mainly covers the following three links, each
of which faces corresponding technical difficulties:
Pulp making stage
Task: Remove impurities such as cellulose, resin, and sand particles from pulp.
Difficulty: It is difficult to optimize both filtering accuracy and processing capacity simultaneously;The composition of the slurry is complex, and the equipment is prone to clogging and wear;
The cost of waste disposal is relatively high.
Paper forming stage
Task: Perform fine filtering before going online to remove tiny suspended particles.
Difficulty: Prevent quality issues such as dust spots and pinholes on the paper, and ensure
the uniformity and strength of the paper.
Wastewater and reclaimed water reuse stage
Task: Purify production wastewater and achieve water resource recycling.
Difficulty: The water quality composition is complex and varied, and the treatment process needs
to balance stability and economy; Deep processing systems are prone to pollution and have high
maintenance costs.
Introduction to commonly used filtering equipment
The commonly used filtration equipment in paper mills mainly includes the following types, each
with its own characteristics and suitable for different stages:
Self-cleaning filter
Features: Fully automatic operation, online cleaning, easy maintenance.
Advantages: Ensuring production continuity, stable filtration effect, suitable for processes such
as white water circulation and chemical systems.

Multi-media filter
Features: Multiple layers of filter media (such as anthracite and quartz sand) are used to achieve deep
filtration.
Advantages: Good processing effect, strong impact resistance, low operating cost, often used as a
pretreatment unit for reclaimed water reuse systems.

Reverse osmosis equipment
Features: Adopting membrane separation technology to efficiently remove dissolved salts, ions,
and organic matter.
Advantages: Good effluent quality, suitable for high standard water use scenarios such as deep
treatment of reclaimed water and boiler water supply.

Application scenarios of filtering equipment in paper mills
Paper machine white water circulation system
Self cleaning filters are commonly used in multi disc filter machines to remove fine fibers and fillers from
white water, prevent clogging of spray nozzles, and ensure stable operation of paper machines.
Chemical Preparation and Addition System
Installing self-cleaning filters in transportation pipelines for coatings, adhesives, dyes, etc. can ensure the
purity of chemicals and avoid impurities affecting the accuracy of addition and product quality.
Reclaimed water reuse and advanced treatment
Multi media filters serve as pre protection for reverse osmosis or ultrafiltration systems, removing most
suspended solids and colloids; Reverse osmosis equipment further purifies water quality and achieves
higher standards of reuse.
Key equipment cooling and sealing water system
Self cleaning filters are used for filtering cooling water in equipment such as bearings and vacuum pumps
to prevent pipeline scaling and ensure long-term stable operation of the equipment.
Filtering equipment, as a purification tool in paper production, is an important support for improving
system reliability, promoting water resource recycling, and assisting sustainable development of enterprises.
With the continuous advancement of filtration technology and the improvement of intelligence, the paper
industry will make steady progress in water conservation, quality improvement, and efficiency enhancement
in the future.
