Wedge Wire Screen Tube for Industrial Water Well and Filtration System
Introduction:Wedge wire screen tube, also known as V-shaped wire screen or trapezoidal screen tube, is a robust metal filter element constructed with profile wrap wire and support rods. It can be fitted into custom water filter housing, and frequently works together with a self-cleaning filter in multi-stage filtration systems. Its unique V-shaped cross-section forms the outer-wide-inner-narrow slot structure, which brings excellent anti-clogging performance and easy backwash capability. The slot opening can be customized from 0.05 mm to 30 mm, supporting a wide range of applications including water well screens, oilfield sand control, wastewater filtration, dewatering and mineral processing. This article introduces its working principle, structural composition, technical specifications, core advantages, application scenarios and selection guidance, helping overseas buyers evaluate this durable metal filtration solution for water treatment, oil & gas and solid-liquid separation projects.

Product Introduction
The wedge wire screen tube is a high-strength metal filter component widely used in solid-liquid separation. It can be assembled inside custom water filter housing, and forms a complete graded filtration system with upstream self-cleaning filter. The self-cleaning filter removes large debris, bulk fibers and coarse sediment through automatic backwashing, while the wedge wire screen tube carries out precise separation and sand control for fine solid particles. The screen tube consists of two main parts: profiled wrap wire and support rods. The support rods can be round wire or V-shaped wedge wire, and the wrap wire is V-shaped profile wire. The welding process creates precise, uniform filter slots. The special outer-wide-inner-narrow gap structure greatly improves dewatering efficiency, and the V-shaped profile prevents particles from getting stuck inside the slot, delivering outstanding anti-blocking performance. Slot sizes are fully customizable from 0.05 mm to 30 mm. Manufactured from stainless steel grades such as 304, 316L and 2205 duplex steel, it features strong wear resistance, high load-bearing capacity and integrated one-piece construction. It supports convenient backwashing, long service life and low overall operation cost. It is widely applied in water well intake screens, oilfield sand control, food dewatering, chemical filtration, mine tailings separation and wastewater treatment.
Working Principle

The wedge wire screen tube adopts surface slot filtration. Liquid flows through the precise gaps between the V-shaped wrap wires, and solid particles larger than the slot opening are intercepted on the outer surface of the screen tube. The special outer-wide-inner-narrow tapered slot is the key design feature: once particles pass through the outer opening, they will not be wedged tightly inside the slot. This design avoids permanent clogging that commonly happens with round-hole perforated pipes.
In a complete filtration train, the upstream self-cleaning filter serves as the first coarse barrier. It automatically backwashes on a timed or differential pressure trigger to discharge large impurities. The downstream water filter housing holds the wedge wire screen tube to perform fine separation and sand control.
When solids accumulate on the outer surface of the screen, the pressure difference rises. The screen tube can be cleaned efficiently by reverse flow backwash. The backwash flow pushes the trapped particles off the screen surface and flushes them out of the system. Unlike disposable filter cartridges, the wedge wire screen tube is reusable after backwashing, which significantly reduces long-term consumable expenses.

Buying & Selection Guide
When selecting a wedge wire screen tube, buyers need to confirm slot size, outer diameter, length, material grade and end connection type, as well as the inner dimension of the water filter housing. If the raw fluid contains a large amount of coarse debris and bulk solids, it is recommended to install a self-cleaning filter upstream to reduce the impact load on the wedge wire screen. For fresh water and general non-corrosive water, 304 stainless steel is the cost-effective choice. For seawater, brine or acidic/alkaline wastewater, choose 316L or 2205 duplex stainless steel. The slot opening should be smaller than the target solid particle size. We can provide drawing customization and end connector modification to fit your existing filter housing and pipeline.
FAQ
Q1: What is the difference between wedge wire screen tube and perforated pipe?
A: Wedge wire screen has tapered V-shaped slots with anti-clogging design, easy for backwashing. Perforated pipe has straight cylindrical holes, particles are easy to jam inside the holes and hard to clean.
Q2: Can the wedge wire screen tube be reused?
A: Yes. It is a reusable metal filter element. It can be cleaned by backwash, brush or chemical cleaning and put back into service, with much longer service life than disposable filter cartridges.
Q3: Can it be installed inside a water filter housing and work with self-cleaning filter?
A: Yes. We can customize the outer diameter and end connections to fit standard or custom water filter housing, and it is widely used in series with self-cleaning filter for staged raw water treatment.
Q4: Which slot size is commonly used for water well sand control?
A: 0.2 mm ~ 0.5 mm is the most common slot range for groundwater well screens, balancing sand retention and water flow rate.
Q5: What is the maximum working pressure for wedge wire screen tube?
A: Working pressure depends on diameter, length and material. Small diameter short screen tubes can withstand high pressure; we can provide pressure calculation according to your drawing.
