In the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, the ability of a filter to withstand aggressive solvents and high temperatures is non-negotiable. Filter bags are available in a wide spectrum of materials, including Polypropylene, Polyester, Nylon, and PTFE. Polypropylene is the standard for aqueous solutions and mild acids, but it is limited to temperatures below 90°C. For hotter applications, Polyester is the preferred choice, as it can operate up to 150°C and offers excellent resistance to oxidizing agents. Understanding the chemical limits of these materials is vital to preventing media degradation and fluid contamination.

Nylon monofilament bags are another specialized solution, often used for "sifting" applications. Because they are woven from a single strand of fiber, they have a very precise and uniform pore size that does not change under pressure. This makes them ideal for the final filtration of coatings, resins, and paints where no "fiber migration" (the release of filter fibers into the fluid) is permitted. For the most extreme chemical environments involving strong acids or high-temperature solvents, PTFE (Teflon) bags provide near-universal chemical resistance, though at a higher cost.

The durability of the bag housing must also match the media. In corrosive environments, 316L stainless steel housings are typically used, often with a specialized interior coating or an electro-polished finish to prevent chemical pitting. When dealing with hazardous chemicals, the simplicity of the bag filter change-out is a major safety advantage. The fully enclosed nature of the process minimizes operator exposure to the fluid. By carefully matching the bag material and the housing alloy to the specific chemical profile of the process, engineers ensure a safe, reliable, and durable filtration system that can handle the toughest industrial liquids.
