This modular automatic self-cleaning filtration system is a new-type filtration equipment developed with advanced imported technology, specially designed to remove fine impurities and suspended particles from process media in petroleum, chemical and water treatment industries. Equipped with robust water filter housing, this self-cleaning filter adopts a special group-wise backwashing filtration mode, effectively captures insoluble solids and foreign substances generated or introduced during production and processing, targeting tiny suspended contaminants that cannot be fully eliminated by traditional filtration solutions without online cleaning capability. The whole system consists of multiple groups of pipeline filters, differential pressure controllers, pneumatic valves, connecting pipelines, support frames and electric control cabinets. Internal baffles separate each filter vessel into a clean chamber and a dirty chamber, fitted with a set of filter elements. Feed liquid flows from the inlet and passes through filter elements from outside to inside; impurities are trapped on the outer surface of filter elements, and the filtered clean medium flows through the clean chamber and exits from the outlet. Once the differential pressure between inlet and outlet reaches the preset value, each filter group will be backwashed one by one. The inlet and outlet valves of one filter group will be closed, then the blowdown valve and backwash valve open to carry out reverse cleaning on the filter elements. After cleaning finishes, the system switches to the next filter group for flushing. The backwash sequence will not interfere with normal filtration of the overall system. Operators can start backwashing manually on site or run the automatic cycle through the control cabinet.
Working Principle
Raw medium enters the manifold and is distributed into each filter unit. Particulate contaminants are retained on the outer surface of filter elements, while the clarified liquid permeates inward and flows out through the clean side. As impurities accumulate, the differential pressure across the filter gradually rises. When the preset differential pressure trigger point is reached, the PLC control system starts the sequential backwash cycle. It isolates one single filter group by closing its inlet and outlet valves, then opens the backwash valve and drain valve. Clean filtrate from other online filter units reversely flows through this set of filter elements, scouring off the accumulated cake and impurities from the screen surface. The waste liquid with contaminants is discharged through the blowdown pipeline. When backwashing for this group completes, the valves reset and this filter unit rejoins the filtration loop. The controller then moves on to clean the next filter group. Only one group is isolated for backwash at any time, and the rest of the modules keep filtering continuously, so the main process flow never stops.
